Introductory Woodturning Instruction
Always One-on-One In the high desert town of Bishop, CA in the Eastern Sierra
Available Fall, Winter, Spring and occasionally summer (though I'm often busy doing shows)
I have been teaching twice weekly classes for Mono County as well as private lessons in my shop.
I will progress at your pace and I have lots of patience. The classes will be held in my full time wood
working shop so expect shavings on the floor.
Will also go birding after class if you bring your binoculars!
Lessons on Woodfast ML 908 lathe or Jet Mini Lathe.
Rates: $75.00 for one 4 hour lesson including materials
$140.00 for two 4 hour lessons including materials ( does not have to be consecutive days)
Sample class: Beginning Bowl Turning
1. Finding your way around the lathe
2. Safety - this will be highly stressed
3. Tools - gouges, skews, parting, hollowing etc.
4. Holding the wood - drive centers, chucks, faceplates
5. Tool control - proper tool to wood presentation for effective cutting, "riding the bevel"
6. Orienting the blank on the lathe
7. Rough turning the blank
8. Side grain vs. end grain turning
9. Design considerations
10. Sanding and finishing
